Guidestar International Newsletter
2nd Feb 2009
2009 promises to be a challenging year. Recession and the accompanying job losses, homelessness and debt, alongside ever present challenges like climate change, poverty, disease and war, mean that the work of CSOs all over the world is needed now more than ever. However, despite this need, the dwindling of resources, which are required by CSOs to help us face these problems, mean that all charities, community groups, nonprofits and grassroots organisations face increased competition and must therefore find creative ways to stay afloat. Online resources will facilitate this activity. Our team has emerged energised from our International Assembly entitled From Local to Global: The Importance of CSO information for citizen engagement. The event gathered leaders from CSOs, government, research and international agencies that are working to improve the fabric of society. Take some time to read the report of the proceedings. Photos, videos and presentations are available for perusal on our website.
You can also find an interview with David Brocklebank, the CEO of GuideStar Data Services (GDS). GDS is the newly established Community Interest Company, wholly owned by GuideStar International. Moreover, we bring you news from our partners in Korea, Japan, Europe, India and the US, along with a video produced by the GS UK programme, which highlights the importance of information provided by websites like GuideStar UK for CSO development.
